The Eureka Gardens Blue Spring Heritage Center in Eureka
Springs, Arkansas is a favorite among all who are in tune with nature.
There
are over a mile of trails winding through the Blue Spring Heritage
Center, filled with colors, textures and the surprise of blooms in
every season.
The new gardens demonstrate crops, plants, flowers and healing herbs
at home in the Ozarks.
The Medicine Wheel Garden features healing herbs and native plants
based on spiritual practices of many American Indian nations.
In the American Indian tradition, the garden is planted in a circular
design and divided into four sections, starting in the East, then
moving through the South, West and North.
The pattern symbolizes the sacred cycles of life and the intimate
connection of all living things. It is said that endless lessons of
wisdom have been known to be experienced within the Medicine Wheel
circle.

The Three Sisters Garden design is an ecosystem creating an
interdependent community of plants.
Traditionally, some American Indian people planted pole beans and
squash with corn. The corn stalks provided support for the beans to
grow and the squash helped retain the moisture from the soil to
nurture all the plants.
The deeper meaning of the Three Sisters Garden intertwines the
physical and spiritual health of people, with each crop protected by
one of the Three Sister spirits.

The Woodland Gardens helps us appreciate the essence of our forests
and celebrate the natural palette they present.
At Blue Spring Heritage Center, we provide walkways past our
indigenous plant life, protected and sustained by native timber.
In the tradition of Thoreau and Emerson, this is an opportunity to
explore our relationship to the natural world.
Blue Spring Heritage Center tracks the cycle of flowers, herbs and all
plant life throughout the year.
Please
keep in mind that the following are partial lists of what is blooming
each month and not all plants bloom at
the same time. Other factors beyond our control such as weather also
affect the plants therefore not all plants may be visible during your
visit.
